The very first Mac Pro, introduced at WWDC 2006 by Phil Schiller.

Thanks to the switch to the less power consuming and less heat producing Intel processors, a lot of room became available for more hardware, for example more harddrives and a second optical drive.

With the introduction of the Mac Pro, Apple completed the transition to Intel processors it began in january 2006.

Remember when 3 GHz dual core was amazing?

"Not only do we make better products, but they're also more affordable."

RIP Apple 2006.

Remember watching this when I was in high school. Amazing to see both these monumental transitions happen.

I like it how they consistently avoid the word "cheap" in all their presentations :)

Switching to ARM and Apple Silicon is the greatest decision Apple has ever made. Intel has become the new IBM, a crumbling titan.

I am so happy with my Mac Pro 2009 4.1. I have flashed it to 5.1, upgraded to dual 5690's with 128 GB of RAM, 2 TB NVME Drive running Monterey via Open Core Legacy Patcher, RX580 Graphics card and twin 8 TB Drives in a RAID 1 setup that I use as my Plex Server. It is my Desktop and Server in one package . . . I could not want anything more.

I have had mine since 2008 and these machines are the best on the market.
I used to switch out my old PC every year and a half. The MAC PRO is a monster.

If only Apple had this much love for professional, user-upgradeable Macs now in 2018...

Still a lovely case design. I can see people swapping in ARM power into this.

I miss Phil, he was such a pleasure to watch/listen too... Was fun seeing him flying the plane in the spring event, but he deserves his retirement

"Apple makes the best computers, but they are usually more expensive... That is a myth we are going to continue to beat out and bust..."

Well, it's a myth no more. It's true. With Tim Cook in charge, Apple sells computers with last year's specs at next year's prices, with dongles.

This is easily the greatest computer in a tower form factor ever made. If you disagree you haven't owned one, I miss my old 2006 Mac Pro so much, one day I will find a 12 core final version.

Being an owner of a 2006-07 machine, I'll tell you it's still a high end machine that can handle any ML any day. It's all about apple wanting you to buy new hardware. Also, on a side note, I believe SL (snow leopard) is the best Mac OS yet.
