Such a simple solution! Those are usually the most overlooked and yet most effective solutions. Thanks for posting this!

Breeding farm person here! For us we halter break colts before they leave and to train them to be tied we use old rubber tires and tie those to the fence post then tie the lead rope around the tire so if they pull back they dont hurt their neck, also the first time I tied my filly (it was a quick release knot) she was doing good so I left her standing and walked around the pen just to see how she did, I turned around for a few seconds and then I felt something behind me and she had untied herself no fuss 😂😂

There are very few things I would say a baby should learn ASAP, but standing still and getting used to be touche by humans are two of them. Just because A it makes it easier and B there is always a possibility that a vet needs to check on them, so if they are already used to it they are not as traumatized. Also, it is kind of alarming how many horses never really learned how to stand still while brushing or when you want to get into the saddle. I got my horse almost a year ago when she was 6, and you could tell that she is a very gentle horse and they did a lot of work with her, but they never really showed her the basics. It took me some time to finally be able to touch her everywhere and we are still working on it. It is way better to set a fundament early and TO STICK TO IT! Sooo many horses I know have to re-learn it because their handlers (even though they are good equestrians) got "slopppy" over the time and didn't correct their behavior right away.
