Amazfit GTR2 - full walkthrough review [Xiaomify]

Well well well.. About a year after my review of the Amazfit GTR, they have launched the GTR2. Is it any good? Let's have a look!

So the GTR 2 has several improvements on the first generation GTR. It now has more tracking features, improved sensors, new sports tracking features, internal storage for music and it comes with a voice-assistant. It also has the PAI, stress level monitoring and blood-oxygen levels that we have seen on more watches lately.

It still has pretty much the same 14-days battery life, and it generally does still have the same functionality as on the GTR1, but it does have an improved design, and quite a few under-the-hood improvements.

I think it's still a great watch, it does what its supposed to do and, even though I personally like the design of the GTR 1 a little bit more, I am sure there's plenty of people that would prefer the design on the GTR2 though.

For those that are wondering about the Chinese characters in the notifications, that is because my notification from these Chinese apps are, well, in Chinses. The full UI on the watch is actually in English.

The classic edition looks so formal. If you're just a normal human who uses watch as how its made to be. This is awesome.

I bought the amazfit gtr 2 and ended up taking it back. I was conflicted. I loved the battery, the look and most things about the watch. What it came down to was the inaccuracy of this tracker. The step counter is very inaccurate, the sleep tracker was okay, but quite limited in what it tracked. Seeing as this is an activity tracker, the fact that it's inaccurate made me send it back.
I ended up getting the Samsung galaxy watch 3. I love everything about it besides the battery life. But thats a small price to pay for such a quality tracker.

You didn't tell anything about calling & talking thru this watch. Thats the biggest improvement youve missed.

I m gonna buy it soon as the price drops... 😁😁😁.... As of now m using amazfit bip.. Best battery ever... Without notifications on.. It actually lasts for more than 50 days.. I m really amazed.. Thats d reason m not switching it.. 😅

You can control smart home devices with Alexa, so it's a very good feature.

Will help in review for GTR 2, wifi feature is just for music transfer ...there is no option of wifi in UI...when you start transferring music from zepp app, then it will ask to enable wifi...so only connectivity in GTR 2 is bluetooth. Thought to share with you

I have one and it doesn't take 2 hours to charge.... 45 minutes to charge and i can use it 5 days straight. It's a good smartwatch and the calls through the watch app are very good. I bought it one month ago.

This would be an amazing smartwatch if it just had the following features:
- Spotify
- The ability to answer texts/emails
- The ability to call others and not only recieve phone calls
- an app store or library similar to other watches. That way you could have applications such as calculator or maps or calenders

Features that I don't think would affect the battery life too much. Hopefully some of these features (especially spotify) will come with the next generation.

Unless you can install few useful Google apps and other 3rd party apps, all android smart watches are just decorated smart bands.

Great video, as always.

However, I must notice that not a single word has been said about the GPS and its accuracy. The reason I'm bringing it up is that I had major issues with the original GTR which I replaced couple of times and then gave up as Amazefit said they are aware of the GPS issues.

I'm wondering if those issues have been fixed here or I should wait for something like the Stratos 4 as the Stratos seem to have a more reliable GPS overall.

I'm pretty curious with the GPS performance, 1st gen is weak..

I like the previous Amazfit model and for the features I use still... I dont really see much of an improvement over my BAU usage... I think like yourself... I prefer the look of the previous model a little more... alot of cheaper trackers are incorporating a blood pressure monitor now which may have been enough to make me buy this new model but alas... still missing on this new version... that would have been a real incentive to buy over the previous model... like the fact it has more music capability but to be honest... I will always have my phone even when keeping fit so the phone will still be more convienient to use for this purpose... I still think the Amazfit is a killer brand but a little disappointed that I might have to wait for GTR 3 for a significant advancement in features to make it worth upgrading... thanks for the review...

Does the voice input only control the watch itself or can you ask all kinds of questions like you could with the standard Alexa client? E.g. calculator functions, unit conversions, word translations, etc.?
If(!) this is the case: do you receive answers via voice output (text-to-speech) or only as displayed text?

I don't like exposed glass edges. Glass is glass and glass breaks. I bought the t-rex because it has a proper shock absorbing ring around the screen. I wish these elegant watches at least had a little bump protection.

I hate the look of the apple watch so I wanted something more stylish. This is one of the few non apple watches that work well with iPhones. I can answer iPhone calls on the wrist, something very rare in non-apple watches. I tried the Ticwatch 3 Pro and it couldn't answer call from and iPhone. I tried the Fossile Gen 6 and it's display is inferior to this watch, the battery life was a joke, and Wear OS2 is buggy when paired with an iPhone. I'm loving the Amazfit GTR 2, amazing battery life, pairs easily with iPhone, and looks amazing. Good video BTW.
