For those wanting to understand why this is happening:

The uchi-uke hand position allows greater activation and incorporation of the pectoral and latissimus dorsi muscles, all of which are some of the strongest, if not the strongest muscles in the upper body. This is supplemented by activation and incorporation of the anterior/lateral deltoids, supraspinatus and pectoralis minor, which puts the arm into very strong position.

When the elbow is extended away from the body, the pecs and lats are removed from reinforcing the stability of the arm, putting all the burden on the anterior/lateral delt and supraspinatus muscles, all of which are generally weak and unstable when significant forces are applied as they are technically supportive muscles of the pecs and lats in the abduction and adduction of the humerus.

I practiced karate for two years when I was 8 (It was 23 years ago), and I still feel the need to learn about this martial art. I have been doing this for years now, trying to do katas at home, and I am so relived to have found a channel where I can learn even more, and in a different way. Thank you for sharing your knowledge 🤝

Same thing I was thought on Wing Chun. My master told me no more room then an apple between elbow and body. I wish there are more teachers like this. Such deep understanding of body.

I feel like these dubbed shorts will contribute to globally raise the technical bar of shotokan practicioners. Mind you, He's telling no secrets, just real karate principles that someone that hasn't been lucky enough with the quality of their sensei maybe don't know or think they knew. From a shotokan stand point Naka sensei is as real as it gets folks. You should all thank him.
