David. Been a while since I watched one of your videos. Am upgrading our house from Dish 722 to Hopper 3 and found this video while thinking about our rig. You made it too easy, now the wife wants Hoppers for both...Damn you. Anyway. Great video. Thanks for the help and happy face. See you on the road sometime. In the meantime, keep it between the lines.

I got the traveler working with the hopper3 tonight. thanks for the video. I had a hard time climbing on my new motorhome. The ladder is wobblely and I am heavy. Now i need to get the joeys hooked up tomorrow, then figure out how to set up a dish on a tripod for camping in the woods.

WOW I was told you couldn't watch and record at the same time when in an RV. I was told that was a problem they haven't fix yet. Watching this video it tells me a different story.

Why do you need a node between the power inserter and the hopper?

I currently am using a Wally in my RV with my Hopper 3 in my home and would like to use the Hopper when snowbirding. If I do the conversion so I can use the Hopper in the RV, will the Wally continue to work, if I switch it back when I'm back home or do I have to switch it back?

i David,

I have a Hopper 3 in my home. I tried to use it in a used motorhome we recently purchased. It has the Winegard Trav'ler system. I couldn't get any channels, just able to access my recordings. I found your video, which I think was very easy to follow the instructions & ordered the DPH42, the solo hub & cables & hooked everything up, per your nstructions. It still doesn't work. On the diagnostics screen, it doesn't show the DPH42 switch. Our LNB says it's a RN dp Plus Digital LNBF / A11203-1F100HBFB. Do I need a different LNB? Thanks!

Converted my Traveler from Direct TV to Dish. I have 3 coaxials running to Traveler, Receiver 1 to Coax 1, Receiver 1 DVR connection to Coax 2 and Receiver 2 to Coax 3. My question is 'Can I make the power inserter to the DPH42 switch connection in my entertainment center (instead of the roof)?' So the coaxials connections would be done with 1ft coax; between the receiver to the hub; hub to the power inserter; power inserter to the DPH42 switch; switch to coax 1 which goes to the traveler terminal 1.

Also could you clarify the connection on the solo node/hub. Receiver connect to which terminal? The power inserter connects to the "to ODU and the To Host connects to coaxial that goes to the roof, Coaxial 1.

Thanks in advance, you are a great source for so much great advice.

How do you get your winegard dish to find the satellites hooked up like that? Will the brain box that you power on still do a satellite search hooked up that way? Even if the system is from 2014? Thank you BTW 😊

I have a 2012 traveler I am changing from direct TV to Dish, have just opened a Dish, with a Hopper 3, account and had dish install and start it in my home and now want to move it to our 5th wheel and get it connected to the Traveler. Moving the Hopper 3 back and forth from the RV to home when we travel as we did with the Direct TV DVR. I have purchased the Dish SK-1000 conversion Kit, the DPH 42 switch and the Hybrid solo Node and installed them as described by your video and the Winegard information. In your video and one of your comments to someone you talk about running a "test installation", but never talk about how to do that. I get no TV and the DPH 42 switch does not show in diagnostics. But it appears that there is signal strength for all three satellites. Any help will be appreciated. Two specific questions: 1] How to run the test installation, or where to learn how and 2] Do think the Hopper3 can be moved back and forth between the Traveler and the house satellite with out resetting it every time, as I was able to do with Direct TV?

Former technician here. Something that might be better, if you're able to change the lnb, I would just get a hybrid lnb and replace the standard lnb. That way you can bypass the need to have a switch and a power adapter and you'll only need one cable from the dish.

Will this same thing work if you have a Hopper with Sling? I’m having a heck of a time getting my setup to work. Dish sent me a Solo Node but it’s different from the Hybrid Solo Node that David showed in the video which is inside the RV. The solo node they sent me to install on the roof has 2 cables coming in and 2 cables going out. I do have a hybrid tap also inside and that is in order for my Joey to connect to my Hopper. But my Joey still doesn’t seem to want to cooperate. Just wondering if anyone has experience with the Sling.

Hi David, Excellent video with tremendous information on the setup making it very easy to follow as are all your other videos!

Since this video is now about two years old, do you think the info is still current with the hardware available today? The reason I ask is, we’re looking to go full time in our coach starting this winter and I plan to have a new Winegard Traveler dish installed for the purpose of doing exactly what you’ve done in thus video. We currently have a Winegard In-Motion dome on our coach with a Wally receiver and, because we currently don’t have the capability you’ve described in this video, I want to convert to the setup you’ve specified here so we can record more channels and watch shows while recording as that’s not possible now with our current setup.

Thanks for your help/advice! Oh, and keep this videos coming. I really enjoy when you publish new content!!
