Paysage d'Hiver: Geister -- ALBUM REVIEW

Welcome to the official J Morris the Review Guy album review for the newest studio length album by black metal project Paysage d'Hiver, entitled Geister!

Album genre type: Black metal, lo-fi black metal.

Following up the immense success of Im Wald, Wintherr has catapulted into the mainstream light as much as someone can for black metal, with a sound uncompromisingly brittle and thin. Covered and publicized, Paysage d'Hiver has been put on the map as one of the greatest black metal acts of recent times...despite being around for a great while.
Geister, unfortunately, squanders much of its' predecessors' greatness and potential, with a shorter tracklisting with a much less compelling sound, a much less intriguing texture, and a general lack of standout moments in field recordings.
Riff wise, percussion wise, general production? It can become much more slower than prior. The lack of super long-winded, wintery compositions in the same way Im Wald had is very notable. Not even for comparison sake, but in comparison to other lo-fi, atmospheric black metal albums.
Paysage d'Hiver remains to be a cause for celebration for atmospheric black metal. But altogether, Geister is an underwhelming follow-up to a record that blew away expectations.

My favorite songs on this album are:
Ascha - Anders - Gruusig - Schuurig.

My least favorite song on this album is:
Warza.

This album came way too soon after the previous one - I haven't still processed "Im Wald". By the way I remember first hearing about this band from a You Tuber called Count Blagorath probably 10 years ago
