You didn’t mention that fuel pump life can be drastically shortened by running the car when low on fuel, as the gasoline in the tank cools the pump. The electric motor and seals deteriorate when overheated. Never let tank level get below 1/8 full.

I was actually surprised to find out how much it costs now to have spark plugs changed. Something I used to do on my own all the time. Engine type and placement of the engine that requires more time and other things to be changed while changing that one item.

My take - most cars are equipped with DI engine, timing chains and some with turbos - change your oil max 5k miles, use the new ilsac 6 oil which is made specifically for direct injection with turbos . Do not go by oil life monitor. Premature engine failure are mainly caused by dirty oil .

I do a lot of my own very basic repairs and I feel the sting even with aftermarket parts. How can you afford oe parts and even more mysteriously from a dealer... That might not fix the root cause

Ugh...Tires. I have an AWD. I have been told that I have to buy all 4 at the same time and the same brand. On my cars, I would buy 2 at a time and any brand. $100 or more a piece. I have to baby them for the duration to make them last a couple of years.
