With Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing nine years in office on May 30, the Congress on Friday said it wants to raise nine questions to the PM on this occasion.

“We want the prime minister to break his silence on these questions,” Congress General Secretary in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh said at a press conference at the party headquarters in Delhi.

At one extreme, there is an outright state-controlled media, where the BJP party directly owns and operates media outlets, tightly regulates content, and suppresses dissenting views. This only occurs in authoritarian regimes with limited press freedom. The BJP's control over the media raises concerns about the free flow of information, press freedom, transparency, and accountability. It's undermining democracy, suppressing dissent, and limiting citizens' access to objective and diverse news sources. Independent and critical journalism is vital for holding governments accountable and fostering public debate. It's worth noting that there are international standards and principles that promote press freedom and independent media, such as Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and various regional agreements. Besides, shameless TV anchors are a disgrace, stain & threat to democracy.
