Wasn't fleeing police in a vehicle already a class D felony?

This wasn't a thing before? You're telling me you could run from a cop and NOT get over a year in jail time?!!

What a bleeding heart pitiful lady. Carry on!!

Yeah and we all know who's doing the fleeing.

minimum should be 5 years, the risk to pursuing officers, danger to innocent bystanders and inherent property damage merits a much higher minimum sentence, in Arkansas it's a mandatory 10 years

I don't think this law will do anything. The person who thinks "I can gun it and get away from this cop" is the same type of person who is likely oblivious to this law nor does he care about any "harsher" consequences. Not to mention, 1 year in prison is like a vacation at a resort for some folks.

They should make it so it's not dismissible, no more nolle prosequi or pleading-down. If the count is charged, then you can have wiggle-room with other counts, but not that one.

Should have been done decades ago. North County is unsafe due to criminals electing to flee apprehension endangering innocent people daily.

Just for the record: All of us white kids had "the talk" from our parents about the police too. The difference is that we listened.

Taking control over the north city and county of st.louis is a waste of time since its never taken seriously.

The people were involved when they voted. Vote different if you don't like it.

Good, those who think the laws don't apply to them are always the first and loudest to gripe when things don't go their way, especially when "don't go their way" is the crime they were in pursuit of doing !

Why would this stop anybody willing to pull off in the first place?

The lady who said the public should of had some input on the law is nothing but a Democrat who wants to defund the police

Okay. We'll take the Valentine Law. And you agree to accept the Michael Brown Law which states that ANY law enforcement officer who uses excess force on a citizen will automatically lose his qualified immunity, lose his job, and St Louis will pay damages of $250, 000 to the injured citizen. Seems fair. What do you think?

This is as likely as a murder in my area which is near inexistant...unexistant? It's not likely where I live and I'm not in a gated community

This should be everywhere if she thinks she's safe when someone flees a stop, she's sadly mistaken.

Knowing and complying with motor vehicle laws is part of driving. If you're pulled over and run, you put everyone's lives at risk. Make sure it's universally enforced - including juveniles. Fleeing teens should be treated as adults.
