Presenting Ubuntu 11.04, Natty Narwhal. This is an expanded version of a series of adverts detailing the new features in Natty.

@TheOz1999 11.10 uses Gnome 3 as a base rather than Gnome 2. There's a lot of slick new stuff in there as well as a few nice redesigns. They also made minor updates to the theme.

New on the Unity front is Unity 4. This moves the Ubuntu Dash button to the launcher, instead of the panel, and allows the dash window to change color according to the main color shown on your wallpaper. There are also some refinements in regard to lenses, and in general Unity is much faster and more stable in 11.10.

@JamesiProductions FYI, Compiz hasn't started by the time you get to the login screen, so Unity couldn't have been slowing your boot. Also, the bar at the left is supposed to serve as a combination taskbar and quicklaunch.

You really ought to try it out for a while rather than dismissing it in ten minutes. You might like it more than you think.

@stewbuds65 Unfortunately, I don't think you can yet. I think they're trying to get a stable desktop out for Natty; Oneiric will have more in terms of customization.

@alx20030 I've used Gnome 3 too for a while. I have to admit; it's a very attractive desktop. That said, I feel like it's very inefficient with space. Open a web page up in Epiphany, then open a new tab. Browsing like that feels like a netbook, the screen is so small. I am looking forward to 11.10, though, and the Gnome 3 stack is excellent. Nautilus 3 and Gnome Control Center 3 are my favorites in that department.

@libcheet Linux should keep a disk cache, so while the first launch may be a few seconds, subsequent launches will be faster.

@alx20030 The real question is GNOME 2 or GNOME 3?

GNOME classic will be available on the CD up till Oneiric (11.10). After that, it'll be replaced by default with Unity-2D. It will probably be available in the repos for a long time.

@runeandreliland I actually, agree, but I wanted to fill the entire song. I'll probably do several shorter adverts that are a more reasonable length. Probably about 30 seconds to a minute.

@libcheet What kind of specs are we looking at here? I've also got a Desktop with 2GHz single core and 1.5GB RAM, and while it's not FAST, it's easily usable. What've you got?

Everything I have seen so far seems to show that we have to have a horrible trashcan on the menu thing. Do you know if it is possible to delete it or replace it with something useful?

@DaveTube24 How did you set it up? Check that your credentials (username, password, etc.) are correct. It works okay for me.

If you still can't figure it out, tell me which service you're trying to connect to (Facebook, Gmail, etc.) and I'll let you know if there are any weird things to be aware of.

@isantop it's indeed pretty nice looking but it can get a bit frustrating at times, just as the unity environment on ubuntu
