Delegates from 175 countries are negotiating the principles set to articulate a future international treaty on plastic waste. Some countries say large-scale, upgraded recycling could do the trick and limit pollution but, for the UN, plastic production must also be cut down and existing objects should be repaired and reused. This could cut plastic waste by 80%. France 24's science reporter Shirli Sitbon looks at those figures and brings a dejà-vu of environmental activism in Venice.

A grand plan can work. Global agreements ended the use of CFCs and DDT. We've seen it work before, we'll see it work again.

Like all the previous “great plans”, it will not work!

Why? Keep reporting on it for the next couple years and you will see!
