hello keerthy.
I am a History Hons student, did my M.A in History.
I also teach in a very reputed CBSE school. And through all these I have not come across Indus Valley Civilization as only abt drainage system.
They traded many items like grains, spices, gems and stones . The proof of vch is seals having cravings of Shiva found in Mesopotamia.
The society was well organised.

Crops were wheat, barley, cotton, ragi, dates, and peas.
Trade was conducted with the Sumerians.
Metal products were produced including those with copper, bronze, tin, and lead. Gold and silver were also known. Iron was not known to them.

The people worshipped male and female deities. A seal which was named ‘Pashupati Seal’ has been excavated and it shows an image of a three-eyed figure. Marshall believed this to be an early form of Lord Shiva.

Disposal of the dead was by burial in wooden coffins. Later on, in the H Symmetry culture, bodies were cremated in urns.

SO KEERTHY I APPRECIATE YOUR EFFORTS BUT DO SOME FACTS CHECK.

THE WHOLE INDIAN GOVERNMENT IS NOT RUNNING AFTER WESTERN COUNTRIES

In NCERT books apart from drainage, many aspects like their pottery, arts, language, construction styles, business, jewellery, attires etc are discussed.

There's nothing wrong in being proud of a well designed drainage system. Especially since there might be parts of India that don't have this even today.

Because drainage system clearly shows good health care system and hygiene which plays important role in survival and represents a good healthy community 💫💫

I am not sure what other kids actually heard when they were taught that Indus Valley Civilization had sophisticated drainage system. But the way I saw and see it was/is that sanity is one indicator of progress in any advanced society. That summarizes a lot about what kind of thinking/tools they could have had, even if they weren't discussed in detail.

Hey Keerthi. I used to love your content, when you would tell us more and not shade on what's the system today. We learned about indus valley in class 5, and they elaborated on drainage system, and I am proud of it. They also taught us more, but perhaps not so elaborately. And I am grateful, imagine how much more huge the syllabus would have been. People who want to study more history will go ahead and learn more. You cannot expect the school to teach everything!

Dear Keerthi mentioning about the drainage system of the Indus Valley civilization is not derogatory. It is a compliment to our ancestors. Even today don't we look for housing that has good water-supply and whether the locality gets flooded or not.
When I learnt abt this civilisation i also learnt about their pottery, carvings and their beautiful coins. It's not nice to be prejudiced and even worse to encourage people to be prejudiced. There is enough hatred and war in the world. Promote Love and Peace. We need it.

Drainage is one of the most important facets of city planning. A good city always needs good drainage system. So there is no shame in feeling proud that we had cities with such great planning.

First of all, those who think elaborated drainage system is something to be ashamed of or not to be called out are foolish PPL. It takes great engineering to set it up for entire villages or cities.
I can tell this coz till date no major city in India has proper drainage system.
Ofcourse Indus valley civilisation should also be recognised for many great things

I first heard about this civilization was when I was in 6th standard and i found it interesting and i watched 100 of videos to find more interesting facts about this civilization, and the most amazing fact is that this civilization was from india that makes me wonder that how genius minded were our people back then.❤️🇮🇳 I feel proud of our ancient indians and their mind blowing minds🥰

Madam, Drainage system is a reflection of their socio cultural advancement. Even in India and many nations we are struggling to provide such a service which is a basic fundamental right. People go to fields to defectate. So that's why it struck historians how advanced they were.

Elaborate drainage system is a great engineering feat. It implies many other great things the civilisation may have accomplished in their era.

I remember learning Indus Valley Civilization elaborately as a part of our ICSE Curriculum! The drainage system was just a part of it.
