My family has been celebrating Juneteenth my whole life. It's always been an important day especially for Blacks with Texas roots.

The formerly enslaved, in Texas, decided to celebrate that day way before Texas recognized Juneteenth as an official state holiday. Started out in one place and spread out across the state. As black people moved out of Texas they brought that celebration of that holiday with them. If you dig deeper different black populations in different states may have their own holidays that they celebrated locally. I don't like Juneteenth as a federal holiday because it screams white validation and for all things that our people need for the federal government to do, creating a new federal holiday should of been low on the priority list. Even when creating a new federal holiday they created a new flag and colors to represent the holiday and not respecting the flag and colors used by black people in Texas.

Peace info man, you know I'm in SE Texas and we've always known of this Juneteenth thing. I never bought it and like all other "holidays and historical periods in time" that most go above and beyond to glorify and celebrate I take a pass and go on about my merry way. I cant with people today bruh, I just cant.

BLACK HISTORY JUNETEENTH IS just a label I don’t need a month to celebrate our black excellence and I don’t need a month to remember the trauma he endured all those years

The date doesn't need to be changed. June 19th 1865 is the day Federal troops arrived in Texas to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation. That is what Black Texans have been celebrating for generatons. Blacks in Texas were not instantly set free on that day and no one has suggested that.Personally I don't think it needed to made into a national holiday. By the way, there is NO way to know when the last slave was actually freed in the US.

There other “holidays” that are on the wrong day such as Easter and Christmas - no way for us to know the right day. I thought with this it didn’t matter that they didn’t know the exact day but if we have historical facts to back up the info then that is an issue.
This is not really a holiday for black Americans anyway. It turned into another PTO for upper management and majority of the black American workers were at work because they were in lower positions so they work on that day. So it is more accurate to say this is a holiday for people in upper management.

Change the date because as a whole Unit we all need to get freed at the same time. Do it as a whole unit that is fair. December 6. Should be the new date.

Why do y'all keep harping on something being a lie??? If BLACK PEOPLE want to choose a random day to commemorate freedom from chattel slavery WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM? Like, leave it y'all. Focus on something that might help you.
