This is after troy cheated on his wife. Cory was angry at that because his father hurt his mother

It’s not about being disrespectful to his father it’s about the hurt and pain he’s feeling about his mother!

Denzel’s mannerisms and the way he talked in this movie was so similar to my father I had to pause the movie sometimes. He definitely should of got a Oscar. He nailed to angry, drunk, bitter dad to a T.

I fought my dad once....it makes me feel like shit everyday.
I hated this scene and I also realised the power of movies.
Thank you, Denzel, for an incredible picture.

The set in this movie reminds me of an experience I had going to school in Baltimore. The row houses and alley ways were just like it. Brings back a lot of memories renting one when going to college.

Me and my Dad had a fight very similar to this when I was 16. We tussled, even threw blows and eventually he beat the shit out of me. Now, I hated my Daddy for the longest time after that. Little did I know he would die 3 years later. Now granted, after we solved our problem like men we started to get along, hell I even had a beer with him on my 18th birthday. I have realized over the past 8 years that hes been gone that he really, honestly did love me, and that he didnt want me to end up living like a savage. He didnt always buy a hell of alot for me but his lessons were priceless. After he was buried I fell asleep on his grave, drunk as shit a week later, because I missed him, I didnt hate him anymore, I wanted my Daddy back. Moral of the story here...you only have one Mom and one Dad. So unless they're abusive in any way, cherish what time you have with them, because it wont last forever.

There's a fine line between tough love and abuse. I will say that Troy's intentions for his son were always good.

The difference between tough love and abuse is the intention behind it.

Of course Troy didn't want him to play football because he thought that whites in charge would hurt him and keep him from accomplishing his dreams.

It's hard to change when you've been expose to a certain lifestyle and things are happening now that you would have never believed it to be true growing up.

He's old, he's bitter, and he's set in his ways.

Can't blame him for trying to make his son strong in the only way he knew how.

GODDAMN That's Acting !! Denzel is a G.O.A.T right next to Deniro, a Pacino and Hopkins

Yes, he could've just said "excuse me" but the dichotomy is displayed in the hypocrisy of Troy's behavior. Troy is a narcissistic control freak, and while he preaches axioms of respect that aren't generally untrue, he doesn't necessarily display enough character to truly represent a role or figure that Cory could ever actually look up to. Cory isn't a whiny kid, Troy is an egomaniac and a horrible father.

Love this film. Denzel Washington's performance was one of the best I've ever seen.

I think the reason why this scene is so famous is because of how relatable it is to our own personal lives. What I love about the scene is that they show how both sides are wrong between the fathers egoistic frame of mind and the son’s naive mindset. Nothing more relatable as a man growing up than disputing with your father over nothing.
