Yup yup yup! I have been working with ChatGPT-like tools for the last 3 months with JS and I always end up writing it all myself.
AI is a junior programmer who just copy-pastes stuff. If you don’t understand the code it produces, you are in for some huuuge surprises.

i use it like iron man uses his AI in the movies. The AI is only as good as the person giving it instructions. Now that bing is an option to browse on the internet, i just link the parts of any docs and chatgpt tells me, ah now i comprehend, and it’s solid for a bit. I did that teaching it the qwik framework and have been able to convert three or four react/nextjs projects easily.

Right now, Copilot really hits that sweet spot of being super useful for devs but nowhere close to replacing them. Let's see what the future brings.

Yes, I completely agree with this.
People have overstated the efficiency of these systems, probably due to hype.
I actually prefer to use Copilot because I think these models are actually more effective when they're specialized.
I've had a lot of frustration with ChatGPT due to it's deteriorating effectiveness in programming solutions as it becomes more generalized and training data becomes more restricted and controlled.

Do I need to mention context plays a major role as well? Imagine that a company is working on a large scale project and I bet it would take lots of time to prompt specifically the end result.

I have been a programmer for 9 years, like everyone else I have used chatGPT, but in 90% of the cases it gives wrong answers, which I have to correct. I only see it useful for the moment to help you in very limited and well explained portions of code. The worrying thing here, is not that AI will replace you, it is that AI will make us dumber, its called "Google effect"

Totally agree.
ChatGPT is a good pair programmer who can help complete repetitive task or a good teacher lol (I recently learned how to make a DB from ChatGPT, the prompt responses were very beginner friendly & it can explain every concept in a format that everyone can understand).
And then there is my friend who told, "dude, your future job is done for because GPT"
Long story short, he raged harder than I do with CSS

Chatgpt is useful to quickly translate snippets of code or to find answers to really specific coding questions that are hard to Google

Definitely agree. I view ChatGPT as basically a search tool that has potentially better context than a traditional search engine. It can provide me better information than googling a lot of the time but it doesn't directly dictate my code.

Absolutely agree with this! It's going to be a decade or two before this becomes a real concern. Honestly Chat GPT, is a good compliment to a skilled engineers bag of tools, but nothing more right now.
