Having now listened to this about 1, 000 times, I think my favorite part is his subtle use of dissonant guitar notes. You can hear them every now and again, and he's kind of always done this live. Those notes maintain a dark underbelly to a track that's otherwise really pretty. For me, it deepens the depth of the song, kind of like telling a whole story –struggles and all – rather than skipping to the conclusion.

My own personal interpretation:

“Ain’t it easy” = the narrator sarcastically chastising himself on how easy sobriety is when you aren’t really sober. You’re just pretending for the sake of someone you love.

I take it as finding your significant other so burned out from work that they’re awake (headlights on = eyes open) but they’re completely mentally drained / not present / high after work (asleep behind the wheel)

Lost control = relapse. They might be doing drugs right before coming into the house after work to enjoy their time with their significant other without their SO knowing they relapsed. To avoid making it obvious the narrator usually just flips on the tv to just sit there blankly without it being obvious they’re high. The narrator’s SO finds it endearing the narrator is spending so much time watching tv with them but in reality there’s something darker going on.

Usually David Dean uploads videos. I love how this time he lets the song speak for itself
