Willie Nelson's 'greatest compliment'

Nora Jones compared Willie Nelson to famous jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt, and it was the greatest compliment he’s ever received … the only difference is the number of fingers they use to play guitar.

Transcript: Nora Jones had a band called Little Willies and they were fans of mine and they used to say that, “Willie was like Django with one finger.” Django only had these two fingers. Right? I love Django and my guitar has similar tone, but the tone of his guitar was the best. That was the greatest compliment. To say that I was as half as good as Django was good enough.

Willie is such a talented singer and songwriter that his guitar playing often doesn’t receive the credit it deserves. And he is a MASSIVELY talented guitar player. If you pay attention to his phrasing, you can hear Django imprinted all over it. Now, in my estimation no one can hold a candle to Django Reinhardt — the guy was other-worldly — but Willie has done an incredible job of adapting Reinhardt’s style to his own music.

That is one hell of a compliment since Django with an absolute Legend and still is. I really hope I get to see you someday while you're still here, Willie. I doubt you'll be coming to Colorado again though. The altitude is no fun for young low altitude singers let alone artist your age.
