The sigma empath makes for one of the rarest combinations of personality types that exist in the general population. They possess many of the same abilities as a classic empath, but manifest them in very particular ways. Empaths are those with an especially strong ability to feel the emotions and moods of others. They are highly sensitive, and described as “emotional sponges” by Dr. Judith Orloff, researcher and author of the book “The Empath’s Survival Guide: Life Strategies for Sensitive People.” In her book, Dr. Orloff suggests that the empath’s sensitivity is the result of lacking the same emotional filters that most people employ to protect themselves from being affected by their surroundings. Sigma empaths, on the other hand, are highly attuned to the emotional states of others, yet they possess an inner sense of groundedness and confidence that allows them to resist being overpowered by the feelings of others.

I think everyone has empathic ability but not many have been forced to perfect it out of necessity.

This entire video sums my 17 year old son up perfectly! I've always known that he is empathic but couldn't pin down some of his traits because he doesn't and never has wanted, to be a"part of the norm". Hearing that that is a huge indicator, as is treating everyone equally- no exceptions- has allowed me to understand him even more. He's always been a very sincere but fiercely loyal person. As a Sigma empath, I found my calling life coaching. Before I even knew the word empath I would find myself drained at the end of the day. Once I was taught how to control this ability it became my greatest asset to the point of being able to perceive the thoughts of others. These traits perfectly describe all the reasons my mother has continued to abuse me for 62 years. Yes she is a narcissist and a control freak. If I could have made a living I would have left home at 9 years old. Instead, I had to figure out a way to survive until I could leave. Two months after my 18th birthday I was gone to start building my own life. After growing up on the east coast, 2 days after my 20th birthday I moved to Hawaii. I have followed my own path and believed in myself and abilities without parental support. I have had ups and I have had downs. Through everything I have always been able to find value in every experience and grow from it. Intuition has kept me safe in some very scary situations and also pushed me to meet amazing people when I felt their energy. I love who I am and my life. My honesty rubs a lot of people the wrong way, which is a badge I wear proudly.
To anyone that walks their own path in honesty and love without a single thought to what society says you should be, I applaud you. Keep it real and keep it happy.

I am realizing at 44 yrs that i have been raised and surrounded by narcissist's my entire life and even dated a few. Now I feel I can identify the narcissist easily and i secretly enjoy watching the joy fade from them when they realize I will not budge to their attempted manipulations.

Yes!!! This video is spot on. We can sniff out a narcissistic person simply based on that yucky feeling that they leave us with after an interaction with them. Also the need for personal space after interactions with negative people cannot be underestimated. But by God we have an inner strength that takes people by surprise as they often mistake our kindness for weakness...no way 💪💪

A lot of these apply to me, I used to be much better at reading emotions when I was younger, but drugs, alcohol, and lack of sleep have dulled that sense. Even though I’ve been sober for 15 years, it took a toll. One of the problems with constantly analyzing everything is it can be difficult to shut your brain off and sleep. One of the benefits of having this personality trait as a parent, is your kids can’t get away with anything, ever 😆

Sigma empath female here. Married a sigma male and waited 36 yrs to find and pick the sigma male after dating/wasting my time with boring predictable alphas. Well worth the wait. For sigma males in the waiting: sigma females exist. How to spot them in the room - look for a quietly leading "presence" in the room. The sigma female shifts the energy in the room with her quiet confidence and usually attracts the alphas but is easily bored by them. The sigma male will attract her by just being himself and matching her quiet confidence. A genuine smile of interest will say and be enough.
