Are you ready for ZBrush 4 R2? This is an old school look at the materials system which is about to get a massive upgrade by Pixologic.

Make sure you know the old stuff so you can be ready for the new. All of this is also covered in our Introduction to ZBrush 4 workshop here:

diogeneslaertius666 - I'm pretty excited about the changes coming up. Will really help me in the visualization of sculptures.

@rez3 i've seen wonders made in Zbrush and there is no better program for organic sculpting ! there is also a planar brushes in Zbrush that flatten surfaces in one second i was simply just putting suggestions on the table to make Zbrush even more powerful and the only thing i could think of is a more advanced hard surface tools, i will always stay loayl to zbrush but that doesn't mean i can't use other programs, thanks for the suggestions i will checkout those progs too : )

nice video ! zbrush 4 r2 is coming out in about a month and thats very long for me :P it looked really nice though, i really wish zbrush starts diving into linear stuff besides sculpting something that maya, xsi programs has, i don't know if it is possible but it would be great to switch from sculpting mode into linear mode where you can adjust vertices edges or even apply deformers like lattice
i think if zbrush does that then it will completely rule 3D modeling business !

Hi, I am new to this and I was hoping you could answer a question. Do you need to model a character in each outfit for a game, or just a base model and the other thing seperatly? Such as, if your character can carry different guns, do you have to model the character with each gun? Or seperatly? Hopefully this wasn't confusing. Sorry.

@willpreston Did you find any info/tutorials/guides on whether you could paint reflectivity/specularity straight on the mesh in ZBrush? Just like as in mudbox - their solution is great, hoping it exists in ZBrush aswell.

@rez3 what i meant by linear is things like transformations and showing the axis xyz rotating moving ( other than the move brush ) scaling having all of those deformers that maya and xsi got, for example i often get a not very straight edges i would give away alot ! to have a deformer that lets you chose that edge and average vertices to make it straight or follow a curve line that i drew and then move that edge to a position, and how do you know ? cause zbrush 4 r2 is still not out yet

in 4r2 can you paint reflectivity or specular straight on your mesh like you can in mud box?

please say you can!

I cant find any tutorials on this subject!!!

@rez3 i've used zbrush long enough and seen enough tutorials to know zbrush and how things are done with it very well, you still missed my point ! if you put more math to the process and combine it with zbrush you won't have to go over a surface with a 100 brush strokes to make it flat ( in which case you could miss an area ) when you sculpt you rely on your hand i like that for fast sketch but when you want serious hard surface results hand skills are not enough !
