Well geez you didn't have to go normsbarstool on me. You said you want to either run or hug it. So if you don't wanna play it safe and try to outrun the big cat that can run up to 50mph, then so be it.

Of course, in my case I'd be paralyzed between wanting to run and wanting to hug it, so, I'm at more risk than most.

Cougars rarely ever attack humans. Only 20 deaths in the past 120 years.

If you run, the cougar will chase it. If you encounter a cougar, stand up to it (don't literally try to fight it right when you see it). Do whatever you can to make yourself look bigger (open up jacket, hold something over your head, etc.). Throw rocks. Do anything but run or approach it. Slowly back away. You just have to know what to do in that situation dude.
