Should You Read: The Hunger Games

Today I Reveiw the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collin’s, which is the first book in a trilogy. It is Young Adult Fiction, and a mix of Fantasy, Science Fiction, and Romance.

I personally feel like the writing style is perfectly fitting for the kind of story told in the hunger games, because it´s such a brutal and cold world, so the simple and dry storytelling paired with the short sentences telling you only crucial information conveys the way of life and feeling of living in such a situation quite nicely. This doesn´t mean that one has to enjoy it, though.
Reading the hunger games makes me very glad I don´t have to experience this world, and the Lord of the Rings makes me wish I could join all my favourite characters and see these awesome places Tolkien describes, and I think that is very intentional on both sides.
I prefer Tolkien´s way of writing too:)

one time I was taking an important school test. we were told that if we finish early we will be allowed to do nothing except sleep or read. so, after i finished the test, i borrowed hunger games from my teacher who’s proctoring the test and started reading it. As the testing period ends, i reluctantly closed the book, still recovering from the shock. as i walk down the hallway, i was under the illusion that everyone in the hallway had the potential skill and intention of killing me

3:14 i mean but if you spoke out against them with no armed forces to back you up, then you still won’t be able to prevent other people from dying in the game, AND now you are CERTAINLY going to die(instead of you MIGHT die), AND your death will discourage other people to speak out against the capitol so…….

7:28 or, what if the writing style was simple on purpose to show that this book was written by Katniss who grew up in constant struggle to survive and therefore found no meaning/value in literature/specific word choice and was under the impression that the only use of “fancy words” was to enhance the capitol’s propaganda

I love what you said about it providing little to you, just entertainment. Like the hunger games! Though I suppose they use them to keep people VERY disheartened (i am so glad I am here and not in the book).

I have seen the first film and didn't rate it much so I'm definitely not going to read the books. I went in thinking at the time that it would be a fantasy like Lord Of The Rings or Narnia. So sword and sorcery basically. I never gelled with it.
