Cheap homesteading made some upgrades to his tire chains. The chains didn’t have good grip so he bought 50 feet of chain and he’s going to make a homemade/ DIY H Chain traction upgrade.

Couldnt help but notice on your chains already on the tractor, one side was on wrong. The open end of the hook is against the tire sidewall instead of pointing out.
I hated to see you clamp on the new H chains, because I’m sure you noticed it later and had twice the work to correct it.
Ive done chains by hand the way you did, so I appreciate the effort that goes into it.
Great idea though!

👍 GOOD JOB!!!! 👍👍 If you don't mind, can you make a video of your modified chains? Also if it's not too much to ask if you could send me the specs on those chains, please. I also having trouble with my tractor in the snow. Thanks again.

Great video - thanks! That’s a great tip on avoiding the added cost of links by cutting, bending and welding. Plow on!

Great job Pete. Lots of chain makes all the difference. Adding more weight to the back might help a little as well. Stay safe.

A bigger ballast box would help a lot too get some weight back there

Nice work, maybe try filling the rear tires 75% with RV antifreeze?

good video. another tip, cut a link in half, and weld it to the links that lay flat so it makes some studs

That looks like they really can dig in the snow 👍

If you added two more of those, to each tire, it would work even better. Even one more per tire. A little to much gap between them. Great information, thanks.
And wondering the model and number of the tractor.
I guessing a Massey Harris 50 ?

You need some on the back of that tractor

Have your chains, specifically the welds, held up over time? I'm looking to do this, and curious if you have any lessons learned now that's been a couple of years.

Great job on the H chain. i had the same issue with the chains on my Massey. I found a good set of bungee cords helped. I have spun in dirt on tree roots and haven't had them fall back between the treads. My tractor is considerably lighter than yours though.
