Bren Orton Whitewater Kayaking | 2023 Highlight reel

I chased every opportunity to kayak the best rivers and waterfalls I could this year, along the way I spent a lot of time thinking about how lucky I am to be on this path. I love every side of this sport from dropping big waterfalls and down river freestyle to chill laps down rivers with my friends or shredding on the white water parks with the groms. I've been committed to being the best kayaker that I can be for a long time now, and I feel like I'm slowly getting there;)

Much love to all of my friends and sponsors that help me to do what I do!

Bren found that, and dedicated his life to it. Glad you were here to share your talents with us Bren. You are missed.

You identified two of your great talents, and you are working with them. I think there is a third which you haven't totally acknowledged, at least not here. You are also a great teacher. You can see it in every video where you are working with young kayakers. You have their undivided attention, but in addition, you have a way with them which makes them want to give you their undivided attention. The passing on of knowledge and the understanding of Nature is one of the most important things we do as humans. Without that ability, we'd still be living hardscrabble lives in caves getting our dinner from dangerous animals at the end of a spear. You may not be teaching astrophysics at Cambridge, though I suspect that if your interests lay there, you could. Your interests are in a much more intimate relationship with nature. It is in kayaking, and being in as close a relationship with the water and being as close to one with it as possible, and that's just fine. You are passing on that knowledge to others, and that is everything.
I hope you continue kayaking as long as you are able (we all wear out eventually) and the whole way through, practice perfecting your video edits, and teaching new kayakers. Then when your body tells you that it's not going to let you run class V anymore, I hope that you continue putting together videos for others, and that you continue to teach, and pass on that enthusiasm for the water and nature. These three things are clearly your calling in life. Few people are so generously endowed.

A quote I will remember.

people think kayaking is your relationship with adrenaline but its not, its your relationship with walter and mothers nature.

Well said. So true bren.

Yet another well edited and really great video, Bren.

You keep making the link between great scenery and great runs on the one hand, and pointing out what really makes this such a great adventure (and indeed, it's not adrenaline, even though I feel that running a perfect line through a difficult rapid can certainly give a kind of different "high"). That's very different from "just" showing cool whitewater runs.

I would add that kayaking whitewater is also about your relationship with your paddling buddies.

The trust that is built between paddlers who know that they might get into a situation where they might not get out of on their own. Knowing that your paddling buddies are setting up safety and are willing to take risks trying to help you get out of trouble, but also knowing that you would do the same for them. There aren't that many hobbies out there that create such a deep bond of trust between people doing what is essentially an individual sport. That, for me, is a big part of what makes kayaking whitewater such a special hobby... or should I call it a passion?

I hate to think what my life would have been like without kayaking whitewater for well over half of it.

Another great video. You are spot on about the relationship with water. My relationship is just with smaller stuff and I love it.

Really inspiring, Bren. Love to see a young man think about more than just the next rapid. You have found your calling and it suits you so well. Beautiful footage and so well done. Thank you for sharing.
