I am a young black man who has two college degrees who is ambitious and trying to be successful. I am also the son of two west African Liberian immigrants. My friend is Trinidadian when he came to my graduation he told me when you get married don’t marry a black women. I was offended and when I texted him I was offended he told me he wasn’t trying to offend me he said he did not want me to get caught up in drama. I still do not mind dating or marrying a black women but what is concerning is how black American women are being perceived as not dateable or marriageable or marriage material. It is a very negative stereotype but some black American women reinforce this stereotype.
