On the morning of Monday, December 30, 2024, Los Angeles Police Department officers encountered a homeless man maneuvering a shopping cart topped with a queen-sized bed near Venice Beach. The officers informed the man that large personal items such as furniture are prohibited on the beach. In compliance, the man began pushing his belongings eastward on Rose Avenue. No citations were issued during the interaction.

The incident highlights Los Angeles Municipal Code Section 56.11, which regulates the storage of personal property in public spaces. Under this ordinance, personal items must not exceed a 60-gallon capacity, ensuring essential belongings can be retained without creating hazards or blocking public access.

The code also prohibits “bulky items,” including furniture and appliances, on public property, with exceptions made for essential mobility aids such as wheelchairs and walkers. Amended in 2016, Section 56.11 seeks to balance the public's need for accessible spaces with the rights of unhoused individuals to retain vital personal belongings.

My lord. This guy has a more pathetic life than I do! Who would have thought this possible?
My name is David and I am 57 years old. I live on a trickle of social security disability every month, $1, 009 dollars a month. I pay my rent with what is called a section 8 housing voucher and I live above a garage. A stinky dirty old garage over here in Perkasie Pennsylvania.
And you know what, even I feel sorry for this poor soul who has to push his home around on the streets!
This guy's life is more disturbing than mine!

A mattress is bad enough. Does he really need the boxspring and headboard . He even has a spare shopping cart on top of the mattress.

Are you serious? A queen sized bed on a grocery cart. That’s one crazy place! You know what we’re all waiting for.

Used to frequent this area in the 90s with my family on many occasions all the way from London! Fantastic place great times! Been there a year ago, the demise is unreal along with many areas on the west coast! Sort it USA ❤🇬🇧

Looks like he has another shopping cart and a rolling chair, too. It's amazing that he is able to get around with a missing hand.

U better stop doing that, man. You're just wasting your time and energy relocating and finding a right place for you.

These guys remind me of hermit crabs: always looking for a bigger shell to crawl into. By the time that guy gets off the roadways, that EV car of the Safe Team will be out of juice.
