Kond, the forgotten part of Yerevan

Kond is a small historical district in central Yerevan. Many buildings there date back to 16 century. The houses are old and shabby. There is even an old mosque there which now serves as a house to 4 families. One can not imagine that can walk in 21st century Yerevan and find him/herself in the middle ages right in the heart of the city.

The old name of Kond is Tapabashi. It used to be populated by Azerbaijani Turks, some 150 years ago. Everyone in Yerevan knows about it, esperially old people. Today in Yerevan this is the only place where one can talk about history, but unfortunately no one turk lives there any more. The ornaments of architecture prooves my words. Moreover, there are names of many famous people in Azerbaijan with birth places Yerevan, in the beginning of last century. Example composer Said Rustamiv, film director Husein Seyidzade etc

Personally, I think it should be preserved, as is, as a kind of open-air museum. It could be a fantastic teaching platform for students of archaeology, urban studies, anthropology, history, etc...

In Australia, or should I say any other part of the world which has a significant architectural or historical significant area.... The area with a history such as Kond or any old part of its city, would immediately developed, occupants compensated... The suburb reconstructed to its former self, wealthy middle class youth, and yuppy families would move in. The area recreated, a suburb with cafe's, culture and populate an area... But the city itself is on its way...!!
