Net billing and net metering are two methods utility companies use to compensate solar energy system owners for their electricity overproduction (extra kWh’s sent back to the grid). In this video, Charles and Warren explain how both methods work and how they are different.

Like your guys short, to the point, educational videos. Looks like my cooperative here in PA, Adams Electric, is going to be phasing out net metering over the next couple years. They’re telling me they’re not obligated to honor the power purchase agreement I signed for net metering. Just put my system in a year and a half ago.

Thanks very much for the information. And I wanna ask net billing or net metering depend by your contract with the electricity services company. If you choose different electricity services, is there difference with these two methods? Thanks

Does not my over production force it's way back into the grid thus turning my meter backwards and later when I pull power from the grid, the meter then goes forward again which just cancels out each other out which has the effect of a lower bill without any effort to account for KW's at all ?

Would it make sense to oversize your panels (let's say 150%+ of annual usage) and go with net billing as opposed to sizing your system to 100% and going with net metering?
