Big apologies to Candice for the hair situation.. we didn't have a proper wig, so needed to make shift something.

Turns out the best way to tell a story that feels authentic is to actually make the experience a little less authentic

Can you IMAGINE convincing your wife to do all that for the sequene??? Candice is a saint

As a videographer, it's great to see someone explaining the effort that goes into what appears to be a simple sequence of shots: "swap places, land drone, back in car, handheld shot....". Another amazing video, thanks Sam!

I know you talked about case's work put into that sequence but goddamn did you work hard for this video! as a fellow creator, i can tell the amount of work you had to put in to this seemingly simple video. Good job my man

I've been watching Casey's videos for a couple of years now and am trying to make my own content. I feel like your video shows a real appreciation for what he (and all of us) are trying to do as well as underscoring the passion for storytelling we all share. Nice video :-)

Okay, so Casey's sequence is phenomenal, as usual. But...so is yours. I mean, Casey could turn around and analyze you analyzing him and he would be equally blown away. Well done, sir!

What a great breakdown. Its not easy to tell a story, but knowing the shots you have to break down, and then shooting them all, will most certainly make the experience feel inauthentic, and that you are just an actor playing a part. But the end result is astounding.

As a reminder, Casey has been making videos for nearly 30 years now. A lot of those videos are vlogs of his family and daily life. He built these skills naturally over decades by just doing. While studying him is great and this video helps give tons of perspective for new filmmakers, just remember that Casey has had more years of practice than most people watching this video are old, myself included.

Dang this is so good... I have done almost exclusively more music tutorial type content and am shifting towards more storytelling around how im creating and releasing 50+ songs this year - and making it into a weekly series, and I've wrestled with how much should I do "naturally" vs how much should I work to truly communicate a story thru medium of FILM MAKING.

And I realized after doing three episodes so far more "raw" - that the truth is more like... audiences want the story. And the story is often not really truly FELT through just the single angle, single cam, single thing ... it's almost necessary to create the illusion to properly tell that story in a way that audiences feel. Really cool, and it's gotten my mind racing on how to do this myself better.

Watched a few of your videos - looks like you're gonna be crushing it in a short time. Keep it up.

Can I just say that I REALLY appreciate you breaking down these videos? I think most people don’t realize what goes into filming a sequence. By laying it out shot for shot you are helping out so many new creators! Awesome +1 sub

Wow you're a good storyteller. Hope to hear more from you! It's only a matter of time until you blow up with this level of quality

I just shared this with my wife, thanks for making it. It is so hard to make movies with your SO and though I don’t do half what Casey did for this one sequence, I have experienced the difference between living in the moment and sharing the moment with others. And he did this every day…

Big thumbs up for your breakdown of Casey's video. Your eye for detail and your own production value is outstanding my friend. I did some breakdowns (shot for shot) on paper for some Casey-videos, but the way you turned it in a video yourself is like an artform in itself. Thanks for sharing your insights!!
