It comes across as deeply hypocritical — Lauren says she was dating casually, was never BF/GF, and he responds with how different it is that he hasn’t hasn’t had a GF in 4 years, but that he’s dated women and been dating.

That’s literally the exact same thing, Dave, she explicitly said she didn’t have BF but was casually dating.

He described exactly the same scenario as if they were 2 very different things. Sexism at play

He’s moving the goalpost to avoid admitting he’s jealous and insecure. At first he made it about him knowing her exes, then when she started to ask him more about it, it became the fact that she dated someone so soon to coming on the show. He’s trying to reason his way out of admitting he feels inferior based on him not having sex for the last 4 years while she has had several partners before coming on the show.

In prior seasons I often held back watching the show so I was watching it in time with these reaction videos. So glad I didn't do that this season, I'm having so much fun sitting here knowing the future. 🙃

I really love your comment "I'll return to the surface level of....what?" This is how I felt watching a lot of this season

Dave cheated on his ex, but he’s concerned she had a friend with benefits before the show. What!? 🙄

15:35 Wow, I think you nailed this. First, I was impressed at how you immediately clocked that something was going on and that toxic masculinity could be at play. But wow, after watching the whole season this idea of him being so concerned with how he appears to others, including the woman on his arm, is very compelling. I also love how you approach this topic with so much compassion for him and how much he must be suffering on the inside to act this badly.

I don't think there's anything Lauren could have done here. Dave seems to be in the red pill mindset of women lose value if she's had sex before she met you. This is patriarchy, this is a red flag to run, you can't do the work for somebody who thinks like this, they have to realize and do the work and then date.

The way you are clocking Dave is very satisfying.

I think your comment about toxic men needing “the pure woman” by their side is spot on for Dave. During the pods, I felt he specifically chose Lauren because she presented as very innocent, especially in comparison to Molly. For example, he commented on Lauren being a teacher several times, being such a sweet, genuine person, etc. I remember thinking back then that he chose Lauren to please his family/sister by choosing the sweet girl. Now with this information, he’s probably spiraling in his mind about how it was probably all a facade or that he made the wrong choice.

Thanks for calling out the slut shaming from Dave, I haven't seen anyone else call it for what it is.

Be careful what you wish for regarding Dave bringing up his sister more 😂

Kirk: ‘So she had boyfriends before this, big deal, right?’ Yeah… you’d think we’d all agree on that…🙄

Hi Dr. Kirk! My interpretation when I first watched was, Dave didn’t initially seem to want to choose Lauren but his people pleaser nature ultimately prompted him to do it & one way he justified it to himself was the idea that Molly had been dating people prior to coming in the pods and Lauren hadn’t—but now that he knows that Lauren was dating people I wonder if he’s resenting her for his choosing her over Molly?

So Dave claims SHE is the one not ready for marriage because she casually dated BEFORE the show, when she was 100 percent single … yet he admittedly could not commit for years, treated women poorly, and has cheated …. But SHE is the one not ready for marriage 😂?

I don’t think Dave was ever that into Lauren and didn’t plan to go home with anyone. He said that before they even dated. I think he is insecure and toxic masculine. He expects perfection and worries non-stop about what his sister thinks.

Until he can stand up for himself and have an adult relationship independent of his family, and until he can be positive and look for the things he likes, and until he can live in the present and not worry over the past, he will not be happy or be a good partner.
