How to upload HIGH QUALITY photos to Instagram #shorts

Quick Lightroom Tips part 2! How to export highres images from Lightroom to be able to upload sharp photos to Instagram. A couple of extra things to keep in mind:
1. The amount of sharpening you apply will depend on the photo. Some lenses are sharper and some are softer - so I sharpen my photos individually
2. Your original photo needs to be in focus. You can’t make an out of focus image sharp with Lightroom
3. If I'm using a high MP camera like the A7R4, GFX100 series, etc I'll resize the longest side to 6000 pixels so my files are not too big
4. This is the exact process I follow for every single photo I post to Instagram!

I do everything but the oversharpening! I'll start doing it now. Thank you once again Julia! 😁

One trick I have tried is to pre-crop it to 4:5 or 1:1 before posting. Instagram seems to use the image preview to post from and pre-cropping seems to retain the most quality, since you're not zooming in from a wider preview. Would you be able to see if this is true for you as well?

But, doesn't Instagram then resize and compress the photos when you upload large images??

Would you consider "using Airdrop" to be different from the "Add to Photos" function on an Apple computer, or does that compress it just like sending via email?

Hello, thanks as always for the video. So, is there a difference in quality/compression between exporting to device ie your PC or exporting to Dropbox

Hold up. If you don't crop to 4x5, instagram degrades the quality a ton.... So what?

I agree with everything except the resolution? Why 300? In your previous video about export settings you said it doesn't really matter for the instagram. You said we can set for example 72 and we won't see a difference. :)

It will downgrade in instagram even it is 100% quality in jpeg settings, mine only 80-85% quality jpeg and sharpness in instagram rather than lightroom

when you do the over sharpening, do you do it in Lightroom mobile after you transfer them to your phone as jpgs? or before you export the raw files ? thanks in advance

My way is to have a psd template with the max resolution of Instagram (1080x1350px) with 72dpi. I paste the image into it, crop it, and apply sharpening on there. I also over-sharpen a bit. If you upload any photo larger than 1080px wide Instagram will compress your image and you'll lose sharpness. Otherwise Instagram don't compresses the image and it stays as you made it.

If you have slow internet speed while uploading it can also ruined your photos quality, not much people talk about this
