A lot of the latest Valentino collection looks very South Asian inspired. Even the ‘V’ design you are talking about looks more inspired from Ikat print, which is a very common, popular print in South Asian countries, especially India. And that green brocade gown looks like it came out of a market selling ethnic clothes in India or Pakistan.

Honestly, I like it because I like Alessandro Michele in general BUT this feels too much Gucci-esque. I love Valentino's block of color and simple but marvellous cuts. This pompous-ness and overlaying doesn't feel right.

Thank you Luke for pointing out the references to the 60’s-70’s when Mr.Garavani opened his first store in Rome and offered bohemian styled dresses with rich and luxurious bohemian styled patterns and textures evocative of the period. I think it was a smart move to match styles from the archives that play along well with his strengths and creative stylings. It’s inevitable that comparisons to his tenure at Gucci will be brought up but I’m willing to wait and see if he can translate that success into Valentino or if he can show restraint in paring down his aesthetic if required.

Some of the fabric and pattern choices are a bit much but the silhouettes and the dress cuts are classic!

This makes me so excited to see what his first collection for Valentino will look like. I suspect he is going to bring a vvvvery interesting flair to Valentino when he combines the eccentricity of the styles we are used to seeing from him with that really posh Valentino tradition. If this sneak peek have some growing pains in it, then what he does next should be so interesting!
