With season 29 of The Bachelor done the franchise is on to it's next venture. But apart from the Golden Paradise contestants... what's really changing? Grant's season was rather lackluster so this season review is about to turn into a season rant. "Cus The Bachelor needs some saving.

The formula is definitely played out but the worst thing was the invasion of influencers. You can't even pretend they're in it for the love alone.

Ashley Norton just posted a GREAT 1hr+ video about how the Bachelor franchise needs to change referencing the shortcomings with Jenn's season (which were out of her control), dangerous casting oversights, and behind the scenes production issues. Ashley is a big fan with multiple videos on the franchise so she really did her research for the recent video and it shows. Absolutely worth a watch and a great background video to put on!

they need to go on different dates. im tired of seeing the sport and helicopter dates

I think one simple change could just be casting people from the same city or even state like they do on Love is Blind. Then this is all more feasible to work out. I just can't believe that some rando from California and another from New York are somehow going to work out.

Joey's season gave me so much hope.

I wouldn’t mind going back to when they had leads who were completely unknown. That gave some surprise to it and it would help eliminate some contestants who are there just to be the next lead. But I also like the idea of a minor celebrity, especially the talks about Ilona Maher or someone in that category who would be recognizable but also there truly looking for a relationship.

It's the casting. We were all invested in Joey. No one really knew who Grant and Jenn were when they were selected as the leads. Also, I think they are fumbling the ball with the Golden cast going to Paradise. The whole draw of the Golden franchise is how drama free it has been. They should have done a Golden Cruise or separate show. They are going to bring down the value of Golden franchise.

They never recovered after they fumbled booking Tyler or Mike Johnson as the Bachelor.

honestly if jenn were edited better on joey's season (i.e given the bachelorette edit) this wouldn't have been an issue. production didn't care to get people invested in her, and then proceeded to do her even MORE dirty on her season.

at this point, i don't even know what this franchise needs... but it needs SOMETHING. anything.

Jenn's season was not her fault. She wanted to find love but productionn started casting way too early instead of letting people decide with only a select few men interested in her, vetted poorly when it came to Devin, didn't put in the effort to hype Jenn up, and all the guys who were there for her got outshined or got caught in drama.

I don’t really mind the show being more or less the same, plot wise. I just want to actually care about the people I’m watching.

The easiest things to do are get rid of the engagement stipulation and up the ages of the contestants. Women 30+, men 35+. You could have them decide to be together, and then the second half of the season could be like the love is blind after the honeymoon. Then you have an engagement finale.

Ashley Norton did an incredible deep dive into the Bachelor. There have been a lot of changes behind the scenes because these franchise is highly problematic.
Maria turned down being the Bachelorette and poor Jenn has no real support because everyone didn't think she should be Bachelorette and the perception was she wasn't first picked when in reality all Maria and that other girl, and Jenn were considered together.

No disrespect to Jenn or Grant, but I truly feel like the lead should be someone who at LEAST gets a hometown or even better, top 3. We need to know the contestants well and be invested in them for them to be successful leads.

Nail on the head. Joey's season did a lot for the franchise because he was the perfect cast, but it's so clearly a franchise in decline.

Especially given the recent hits like Love is Blind and the Ultimatum, where you get to form a bond with the characters, understand who they are, and what moves them - the Bachelor(ette) has fallen so short. Like, how do I know more about a random Love is Blind character that didn't even get engaged (Madison or Mason) than I do about the Bachelor lead?!

They need to change the script or setup or amount of contestants or SOMETHING. Otherwise I fear nobody is going to watch it anymore as it's shallow and provides no drama and is boring. Can't do 2 of those let alone 3!

huge disagree that jenn "shouldn't have been the bachelorette." production didn't "let [maria and daisy] go, " THEY DECLINED. they also cast men who were expecting daisy or maria instead of jenn. that cast was garbage. production is entirely to blame and saying that jenn shouldn't have been the bachelorette is crazy. she was the obvious pick when neither maria or daisy wanted to do it. she was a gorgeous bachelorette who had so much potential and was screwed over at every turn by production.

It's like the old classic storytelling rule: they're supposed to make us (the viewers) root for the main character, so if they keep choosing ones we don't really care about, the season is going to fall flat.

i think jenn was a great bachelorette but production didn’t do their due diligence and let another POC lead face a bunch of contestants who only want white leads…. and maria and daisy didn’t want to be the lead so why does jenn have to be overlooked once again

I think you nailed it when you said they have to start protecting the lead. The reason no one is there for the "right reasons" anymore, and just there to get followers and make money is because the show treats the cast as clowns only there for our amusement, and so that is the quality of contestant they get. With so much trash reality out there, I think Bachelor should go back to its more romance based roots to help it stand out from all the other dating shows that rely more on idiots being idiotic for our amusement.

Admittedly, I haven't watched this show in years, I just watch your recaps because they crack me up. I hate everything about what the show has become, but I did enjoy it back when it was about romance.
