Thank you. I think this conversation is not complete without discussing the tax implication for investing in India mutual funds for US NRIs. How does US treat such investments for tax purposes? Indian Mutual Funds fall under the category of Passive Foreign Investment Company (PFIC) in the US. As per PFIC rule, investments falling under the said category are taxed in US on notional basis as ordinary income irrespective of whether the same is actually sold or not. This could be an issue for several people

The banks in India don't tell it's NRI customers these details. Banks make them invest while they are in India, then the banks tells they have to physically present and fill that most complex form to make transactions.

Since a month I have been looking for this information on YouTube but could not find it. Thanks a lot for making this video which solved most of my questions related to investment in mutual funds as a nri in usa. As you mentioned we need to provide fatca details, ssn number and kyc docs, is this during the nre account opening or during the account opening in platforms like et money, coin etc for investments in mutual funds ?

Wrong information. I have been buying NAVI funds without being present in India. Account was opened when I was in US. Investments were made when I was in US. All online.

can you make a video on how one can buy such mutual funds themselves? In my understanding, many apps do not allow you to do it? Is there a common platform from where US NRIs can invest in these mutual funds?
