Honestly, seeing Fuyuhiko become the new protagonist sounds pretty interesting, especially that’s when Peko dies as well.

My headcanon? Hiyoko meant to kill him but Peko found out about the plan and tried to confront her and ends up dying instead. This causes Fuyuhiko to step up, ultimately becoming the new protagonist.

Edited to add: Also, during the final trail, we get an equivalent Chiaki talking to Hajime scene, with Peko encouraging Fuyuhiko to not give up.
