When Michael Jackson scares my patients

being afraid of anesthesia and surgery is totally understandable for my patients, especially when they see the syringe of propofol, or Michael Jackson juice, or milk of amnesia. however, there are many ways to help comfort the fearful patient before surgery, that it can have a serious impact on their recovery!

I learned how much touch can help after a car accident when I was 18. I was shaking so much the doctor asked everyone to step away and turn down the lights. He took off the gloves and by touch and explaining what they were going to do calmed me immediately and they moved in to treating the injuries. Taking those moments really helped things along after. That was 50 years ago and I still try to model his compassion when I see people hurt (physically or emotionally).

I am 9 days Post-Op and all I can say is that my Anethetis was an amazing lady.. She massaged my face beforehand and it was so seamless. She listened to my pre-existing medical conditions and explained as i have a hyper aware nervous system that she would have to do things differently. Best experience ❤

I've had surgeries a few times before but was lucky to have had all surgeries done by step family and all Anesthesia done by step family. Most of them are They are amazing.

When I had surgery a few months back, the surgery nurse grabbed my hand for just a few moments. I had met him during surgery prep and he is a very empathetic person, so I felt comforted right before I fell asleep

You just reminded me of my surgical and how sweet they all are when I get in the OR. Once the anesthesiologist put on "I'm ever and they were all singing and "dancing" as I was being rolled in on the (not the surgeon).... but he enjoyed the shenanigans with us. Good time, good 😊

Just had surgery for tri malleolar and FX of Fibula... the Anesthesiologist had a nice sense of humor, used the MOA, he knew I was an old ER Nurse not used to being on the other side of the bed/ gurney and was helpful explained everything well and let me watch as he did nerve block on the screen. Thank you for all your caring and compassion to your patients. I did the same to my patients, I hugged them, or held their hand sometimes it can make a world of difference in the healing process, we are all human . Love, kindness, and compassion costs nothing to give and it is plentiful in a good heart ... (like yours Dr.) one day that love will all come back to you!! ❤️
