10 AM: Hurricane Ida making landfall in Louisiana

On the latest forecast track, the National Hurricane Center has Ida making landfall in southeast Louisiana near Port Fourchon Sunday around noon as a Category 4 hurricane with winds of 150 mph. There is the potential that we see the storm make landfall as an even stronger storm - plan for a category higher as there is always uncertainty with a tropical system intensity.

The storm has already rapidly intensified as it is taking advantage of deep, warm ocean waters and relaxed wind shear in the Gulf of Mexico. Combined with a decent outflow, these ingredients are prime for a strong, potentially devastating storm to grow in the atmosphere.

Wind, rain, and storm surge will all be threats. We are expecting conditions to worsen overnight into Sunday and Monday. Don't think you can wait to prepare due to a Sunday landfall as the effects will begin over the next few hours. Preparations to protect life and property should be rushed to completion NOW.

He’s been up since midnight. He’s doing such a great job that I wouldn’t be surprised if a national news station snatches him up after this.

So glad I evacuated. I don’t play with Hurricanes. I just hope and pray there is no loss of life and destruction like Katrina. Pray for my family and friends who decided to ride this “Ride It Out” that God’s grace and mercy protect them in Jesus name! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Slowing down - that is NASTY BAD - that means you will continually be battered by the winds and torrential rain.

I suppose the weather channel will put their people out there in the hurricane so we can watch them get pummeled with rain and wind and a car? Because we are not smart enough to know it's a dangerous situation?
