The Evolution Of Stealth Technology (in under 5 minutes)
In 1980 the Secretary of Defense Harold Brown gathered reporters at the Pentagon and announced to the world the existence of a new technology called ‘stealth’. From there stealth technology has rapidly advanced, from the experimental planes of WW1 to the Sr-71 blackbird to modern stealth fighters like the F-22. And now foreign nations like Russia and China are even stealing American stealth designs. Watch the video to learn the whole story!

This video brought back a great memory from my younger days. As a kid, I was obsessed with flying aircraft. Fortunately my father was an engineer and had excellent drawing skills. He would draw me all different kinds of aircraft and explained how they could fly. Once he drew a picture of a very strange military aircraft that the military was developing (yes, highly classified.. more on that below) and how it couldn't be detected by radar. His company was developing the coating applied to the jets. That aspect didn't make much of an impression as a kid and it was a bit hard for me to understand all that. I just thought the shape of it was super cool. My Dad probably knew that as well. Like something from a science fiction movie or TV show. I was obsessed with Star Wars and Battlestar Gallactica. Since at the time there were no images of it in public existence and no one ever spoke of it, I completely forgot about it. Fast forward to desert storm. I was in college and was watching the news and as soon as I saw a stealth bomber for the first time, I yelled "Holy Sh!t" and immediately called my Dad. I said, "Did you draw me a picture of the stealth bomber when I was young?" He laughed and said, "You remember that?" I said, "Yeah, and wasn't it classified information?" Well, I was a painfully shy and quiet kid and barely spoke to anyone unless they spoke to me and I knew to keep my mouth shut about something when I was supposed to. So my Dad said, "Yeah, but I only told you, and you wouldn't talk about it." I guess it wasn't as much of an issue (?) since he wasn't military. But still...

That early flying wing was canned because that all wing tailless design was not so stable and had a habit of crashing and killing its crew. It wouldnt be Until computers advanced to the point of the mid to late 80s when they had enough power to compensate for the instability

The russians were able to figure out what the stealth paint was made from because the guy doing the spying had the soles of his shoes made from this stuff that would grab crap laying on the ground like paint overspray (whatever the compound was tha they made those shoes with didnt stick to the floor and make that walking on a movie theater floor sound)
