Watched this from the Netherlands as we are about to build a machine which will be installed in the US. Gave me a lot of clear information on some decisions we have to make. Thank you for the great examples!

Amazing video! I have tried to find some summary of UL 508A standard but no success until now! I am sad to hear that I can not use PHOENIX CONTACT PTFIX Distribution Blocks as Feeders for many small motors, these have amp ratings of 25A / 32A and are quick connect, but I suppose it does not comply to the 1" / 2" spacings specified in the UL 508 standard.

most CE marks on devices are self declaration of device manufacture. That is why devices, have CE marks, are not allowed use in conjunction with UL listed or UL RU components marks . Also motor circuit protection means that basically it protect user or operator from high surge of current or voltage ( especially some extreme case high voltage arc ). UL 508 is harmonized with compatible IEC so UL start to replacing 508 to UL 60947 series standard back in 2017.

Can you use 16 AWG for the control panel control voltage wiring as long as it is fused properly and still be UL508a compliant? I read that at 20AWG is when it starts to matter and is limited to PLC connections for that size wire. But apparently 18 AWG or larger is okay according to table 66. I'm trying to save money on wire costs, so want to avoid 14 AWG for control wiring.

Are there any standard torque specs for wire size to these components?

Hi, I've heard that an electrical control panel cannot be inside of a machine. Why is that? Why does it always need to be in a panel - seperated from the machine? I can't find that information anywhere...

I believe CE stands for Conformité Européenne, which is French for "European Conformity." Not China export. Great video lots of useful information.

Thank you for this video, it was informative and I look forward to see more. One thing, if you can use an other type of mic ? Your voice was not equal all the time.

Would products certified only to the UL508a standard be accepted in Canada?

Whats the use of supplementary protection if you need to have UL489 breaker in there already? Seems like supplementary breakers are useless.
