Man tries to turn himself in - But the jail doesn't want him

Brunswick, Ohio -- A man tried to turn himself in on his warrant but fortunately for him, the jail isn't taking people on non-violent warrants.

The man was given a new court date and the warrant was recalled. Until, he didn't show up to his next court date and another warrant was issued for his arrest.

I have purposely decided to delay publishing of this video to prevent others from exploiting the former state of the jail. However, the jail is accepting all now. This video was filmed over 5 months ago.

⚠️ Footage from this video was obtained via the Ohio Public Records Act (R.C. 149.43) All suspects featured on the channel are to be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law ⚠️

As someone who has been incarcerated, trust me, it’s people like her that makes the time more manageable. Kindness goes a long way.

Have to root for this guy.

Taking accountability is the first step. I hope this guy is able to sort his life out.

This is true! They did this a lot when covid first started. Which was a good thing. I had to pick up a family member and the officers actually waited 2 hours because they really didn't want to take them to jail due to covid. Thee only bad part about this is, it started a bunch of crimes because ppl knew they would most likely get just a court date if it wasn't a violent crime. People were stealing their azzez off! SMDH! LOL!

A perfect example of both an individual being accountable for his actions AND a friendly police officer treating him with respect and kindness. A perfect example of people being decent on both sides and things working out in a great way..

This was beautiful both ways. Someone that takes responsibility and turns himself in, and a kind officer treating him like an actual human. Bravo

This actually happened to me during Covid . I had a warrant from years ago back when I was homeless and at the time I didn’t care if I had gotten arrested because at least I would have some food and not sleeping outside during winter. Anyways I got back onto my feet found a job making 60k a year doing a lot better and when I found out I had a warrant my heart dropped. So I figured I would turn myself in because I didn’t want to get arrested my job and when they booked and released me I was so happy FYI I went to court a year later and the judge dismissed the case. Even though Covid was a rough time for everyone I’m glad I took care of that warrant during the pandemic otherwise I probably would have lost my job and homeless again

Man, love that she was so kind, and furthermore the fact that dude turned himself in… We need more people like this all around. If you’re wrong, man up and take care of business!

If someone turns themselves in for a non-violent warrant, then that's the way it should go. It shows they are willing to get it taken care of. No need to put them in a cage if they aren't a danger to society.

Edit: it amazes me how many self-righteous, ignorant people on this comment are against people not being thrown into cages before they are convicted of a non violent crime.
The initial jail time is not part of the punishment as everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Furthermore, everyone who is charged with a crime is not guilty of a crime and not everyone who gets charged with a crime is a scumbag. In some cases the only difference between you and an inmate is a bad day or a poor decision. Think about that before advocating people getting thrown into cages over non-violent offenses before they are found guilty for them.

IN MY VIEW
I am impressed how the officer worked with the man giving him all the information he needed to have the warrant dissolved, including answering the question about his bond. This guy deserves a good night sleep!

I wish this guy the best. He just went viral doing a very difficult and often times humiliating thing. A sign of true growth.

I really love the girls smile next to him. Like she was holding it back and she could see something good was happening for him. I hope he does better in life :)

As someone who’s having to turn himself in sometime soon seeing this video was definitely a ray of sunshine for a first time offender who’s been a bit nervous about the process. Kindness definitely goes a long way.

For those of us that have been to jail and understand.. imagine mustering up the balls to finally go turn yourself in, you get there, and they don’t want you AND take your warrant out of the system. 😂
