I think you're in about the right place on this. Maybe the show or their later tracks will show some depth or some spine, but it smells to me like trying to do a "why can't we just get along" thing as if there's not like, steps that could be taken by certain parties that are not being taken right now to help that happen

"All eyes on us" could have been written 5 years ago, but it's definitely an oversight.

If you like the idea but want something less eurovision-y, "Friday night semites" is a podcast by a Palestian-American and a Jewish American and they talk about their ideas of peace and equality, and their family members' lives

Ah, yes. Can't wait for the boyband with Starving Irishmen and British Aristocrats.

I don't have a problem with the "diversity" of the boyband. I have a problem with it being the boyband's branding.

For me, true coexistence speaks for itself. it does not need to be bragged about and it certainly won't be monetised from.

Hard not to be cynical in this day and age, remember the cringey celebrity We Are The World video? Nothing like rich and beautiful people saying thoughts and prayers. I wish the lads well and hope they use their platform for positive change, but I expect less than nothing from them, because frankly, boybands can't and won't save the world.

What in the Girls5Eva … I think your cynicism is correct. Especially after reading this nugget in a Billboard article:

‘… Israeli and Palestinian casting directors had held auditions in major cities and tiny villages throughout Israel in 2021. (Auditions could not be held in the West Bank or Gaza due to *logistical challenges.)’

*Apartheid. The logistical challenges were Apartheid.

I haven’t seen anything about this band before this video, but I think the existence of this band is fine. The name of the album is definitely questionable, but it’s likely that they were just trying to make a statement, and it came off as insensitive. They’re only 22-23 (allegedly), they probably have (or had) some sort of hope that the existence of this band will help in some way.

I am palestinian and I was born and raised in palestine, we are not taught to dislike or hate jews. Our problem is with the occupying government and what they’ve done to us in the past 76-100+ years.

I’m Palestinian I think it’s a shallow and vapid project, no you cannot just correct decades of oppression and occupation by posting thirst trap music videos. Bad music never healed anyone.

The entire premise sounds like another banned SNL sketch on AIPAC. And... Nile Rodgers?

I understand their point but this whole thing seems superficial especially the name like imagine using an ongoing genocide as marketing 😭

I think it’s crazy that in this boy band it’s people on two sides of this conflict and random outside people from American and England are like “I feel this way or that way” when the people in this band are DIRECTLY RELATED TO THIS CONFLICT who are you to speak about how they express themselves in their own conflict.
