If you listen closely you can hear crackling snappy sound that are actually shockwave emitted from the exhaust. At high decibel levels compression part in sound waves travel faster than expansion part and shockwaves are formed. Those shockwave are heard as short loud bursts of higher frequency harmonics of the exhaust note. Reminds me of trombones and afterburner crackle of the fighter jets.
