Theme means the central idea conveyed, either direct or implicit, in a literary work that depicts any human experience (Curry & Samara, n.d.; Hamilton, 2007).
It is the underlying message, or insight into life that the author communicates through the narrative. Unlike the plot, which focuses on the sequence of events, the theme is more abstract and addresses broader concepts, such as moral lessons, human nature, or societal issues. Themes provide depth and meaning to stories, allowing readers to reflect on universal truths and the human experience.
