Sinterklaas Amsterdam 2012 (11.18.12 - Day 871)

Sinterklaas arrived in Amsterdam. For the 74th annual welcoming parade of Sinterklaas in Amsterdam, this is a 50-minute special. Unfortunately some supporting footage is of a lesser quality than you're used to however altogether this is probably the best showcase of the event found on YouTube. Please enjoy and have your children enjoy this one as well! :D

The sacks carry Pepernoten (peppernuts, kind of bite-size cookies) or 'strooigoed' (throwing-goods, a combination of peppernuts and hard non-sticky candy together in the same bag)

There are a lot of black petes, most of them with a specific duty and corresponding name. Much like The Smurfs, in fact. The ones blowing powder were some black petes in charge of baking Pepernoten, being mischievous.

Erg he.. Maar het is nooit anders geweest volgens mij. Ook in het 'hoge noorden' ging het net zo in de jaren '80..
