Breon Ansley: You Cannot Gain 10 Pounds Of Lean Muscle In One Year

With the release of Enhanced 2 The Max, a lot of controversy is rising up again around Tony Huge and his extreme claims. One such claim and a major part of the story in this documentary sequel revolves around trying to use drugs to build 15 pounds (or more) of lean muscle in just one week. You can watch the film here to see if he succeeds.

But according to Breon Ansley, not only is that impossible but it's even impossible to build 10 pounds of muscle in a whole year. Pulling from our past interview with Breon Ansley (from our 'A Conversation...' series), his statements directly contradict Tony Huge's recent claims.

Breon Ansley is a pro bodybuilder who has been training and competing for over nine years. He's also a 2x Classic Physique Olympia champion. That kind of pedigree earns a level of trust when it comes to matters of building muscle. According to Breon, no pro bodybuilder can ever build 10 pounds of lean muscle in one year - that's why so many Men's Open competitors end up having distended stomachs. They try to gain too much muscle in one year and end up looking too soft and too big.

Tony Huge thinks that all you need is one week given the right cocktail of performance enhancing drugs. He also claims to have the statistics and science to prove it based off his underground experiments.

So what do you think? Check out the GI Exclusive interview clip from our Breon Ansley interview above. Then check out Enhanced 2 The Max and see which case seems more true.

When you’re at their level working out for as long as they have, it’s impossible to gain 10lbs of solid muscle in a year. I agree 100%

If you’re a newbie, it’s possible.

Annoying unneeded music while he talks

He’s speaking in context of a top Olympian or a pro in general. Guys early on can gain that type of weight, when your at your peak it just doesn’t happen like that.

Ansley is the nicest guy i have ever seen. I saw him once in a expo in california. He signed me a t shirt and even clicked a selfie himself.
Then we had a small talk where he motivated me to achieve whatever i want in life. ❤

I love when pro sports commentators say about a player "he trained hard in the offseason and put on 20 pounds of muscle". STOP. It was said about Arod and Jeter amongst a million others. Pro sports athletes wouldn't be able to do what they normally do if all they did was train to get big. When I put on weight that isn't fat its water. As soon as you lower carbs it starts to dissipate. Breon is correct. Even noobs training. They just hold water and shit eating all those carbs and they think they're growing

Dorian Yates, Casey Viator, Ronnie Coleman, Brandon Curry, Calum Von Moger, Shawn Rhoden and Kevin Levrone have all done this or more. Granted some of these were examples of gaining muscle recently lost, however the two most extreme examples, Dorian and Brandon Curry gained tons of new lean muscle in under a year.

if advanced/intermediates are already training and supplementing/recovering optimally they aren't going to gain 10lbs of muscle in any year or year on year ( this will apply to 99.9% of people) hes probably refering to social media bullsh1tters, who gain 30 pounds od muscle 4 weeks after a show.

I clicked on this ready to dispute the claim in the title! However, once BA clarified, I realized that he is right! It is very difficult to add 10 pounds of LEAN muscle in just one year. However, I would not agree that it cannot be done.

I don’t like the mindset of “you can’t”, or, “it’s impossible”. Every person is different and there are so many variables that make his statement wrong. As an example, any person who is just starting to train for the first time in their lives can definitely do it as long as they are eating and training correctly. Just because YOU can’t doesn’t mean someone else can’t.

You can if you're 160 lbs highschool freshman, or a retired Olympian getting back into shit, and you can grow a shirt size every two years?

But Shaun Clarida said that he put on 10 pounds of muscle

I think he means you can’t put it on ‘naturally’
