Each weekday morning, "CBS This Morning" co-hosts Gayle King, Anthony Mason and Tony Dokoupil deliver two hours of original reporting, breaking news and top-level newsmaker interviews in an engaging and informative format that challenges the norm in network morning news programs.

The first red flag was “the bank” calling her every time she logged onto the site. Banks don’t call you to notify you their website is down and to receive a call both times you log on is very suspicious.

You can see the tears in her eyes, scammers and grifters have such a huge impact on society.

Key Bank admitted that they saw a “trend” of fraudulent sites and didn’t even bother to alert their customers

Can we take a minute to talk about the contract violation with Keybank "not exceeding 25, 000" ? why is it when the client is in violation of a contract, they are liable but when the institution is in violation, it's not responsible?

This sounds crazy as I can’t go on vacation and make purchases without chase shutting my card down and embarrassing me at the check out. I won’t complain anymore for the 5 min delay it takes to verify if it’s me.

So if he breached anything listed in the contract with the bank, he would have been held accountable. They owe him that money!! I hope he closed ALL his accounts with that bank.

Key Bank should have noticed something was wrong by all those fast, large withdrawals. Yes, they are responsible & they knew it. Suddenly things were made right when Key Bank understood the business was going public.

My bank won't even let me get 500 with out some type of problem

Key Bank should have a “Fraud Dept” that handles this, while putting the money back into the account. Shame on Key Bank.

How did the bank not recognize these? I understand small businesses make large payments to vendors and such, but wires like these would be out of the norm for anyone.

My bank will freeze my card if I even try to use it when I leave my "region" and don't notify them and I'm usually only dealing with hundreds of dollars not thousands of dollars....so the bank taking no responsibility is BS. It may seem inconvenient to freeze an account until you verify the unusual activity but sure saves you a lot of headaches and heartbreak in the end.

the red flag is always when someone calls you. always call the designated number in your paperwork.

Those withdrawals should have been immediately flagged as potential fraud because they were outside their normal withdrawal pattern. This is why it’s better to bank with the larger banks who invest in the AI technology to catch these things quickly.

Google allows these companies to advertise and show up as the first search. They're all making a lot of money and nobody is responsible except for you.

I had never heard of Key Bank before but I’ll never forget them after this story. Glad for that business they were able to resolve this (thanks to CBS News!).

An additional culprit is probably Google. The accountant typed where she wanted to go into the address/search bar, and Google probably put a scam ad as the first result, so she clicked on it without looking at the URL.

Your money is FDIC insured while sitting in a bank. They should have gotten their money back because this is a fraud claim. I dont know why Key Bank acted like they couldn't help them. They need a new bank.

That's why two-factor authentication is so important. Any company's accounting department should be requiring their bank to use this at a very basic level.
STAY AWAY FROM THE BANKSTERS!
