FYI if you want it to detect entities try adding a string infront of the observer :)

I used another system for the dispenser to dispense. I used it with a repeater and comparator. But this one with the Observer, it is more compact and with a single line. Thank you very much for that information Mr. KaleHameron: D

Could you please show us how to hide observers? I'm trying to do a hidden entrance with observers and the new candles, but it'd be pretty blatant to have four candles on top of or beside an observer.

Fun fact: On 2012 (i hope i got the year correct), a bug was reported that dispensers, droppers, or pistons activated when the input is diagonal or from two blocks above. So basically, when a lever is activated, and you place a piston below it at a one-block gap, the piston won't activate, duh. But if you place a block at that gap, the piston would be activated, and vice versa. This led to the conception of BUDs (block update detectors), which were turned into the observers that we know today.

The observer made things a lot more easier. Back in the day you had to dig half of your world to make a 2x2 piston door, the clock was a little bit more compact but it was a bug and would eventually stop working, Flying machines required entire secondary systems of pistons that pushed redstone blocks, really the observer is one if not the best redstone block added to minecraft even passing the Sculk sensor.

i get that the observer "detects" things. But to what end? Why? What is its defined purpose?

Anyone? Can anyone explain why it exists without talking about how its crafted first? Why does it need to be connected to a dispenser if there is a redstone clock to activate the dispenser?

What is its purpose??

0:50 If you want the chest to sent out a redstone power when you open it just use a trapped chest.

Is there a way to make an observer command last, the way it does when you use a lever?
