Empire Records - Sugarhigh (Renee Zellweger and Coyote Shivers)
Near the very end of the movie, in order to raise up enough money for Joe to buy Empire Records, Gina (played by Renée Zellweger) overcomes her nervousness to sing in front of crowds of people, and she performs the song "Sugar High", along with singer and fellow actor Coyote Shivers (who played Berko). They both sing from atop the roof of the Empire Records building, with it's lights flashing all around them. The gang is able to raise enough money and Joe does buy the store and all is great and wonderful in the end.
This is just a fun song to listen to. And seeing Renée Zellweger this young and having such a good time and singing so great, to me it's well worth the 2 and a half minutes to watch and enjoy. Thanks.

Had they included Renee Zellweger's part on the album release, it would won SONG OF THE YEAR AWARD 1995.

Yep. Grew up in the 90s. No cell phones, no social media. Just great music and films. Going to school with friends all week planning the weekend. Great times.

I once wished this version was on the soundtrack, but the original is great in it's own right.

One of my favorite moments in a movie full of favorite moments. I love how you can absolutely see exactly how Gina's feeling WHILE Renee's doing a fantastic job on the vocals (which, okay, probably redubbed, but I'm guessing they also sang in shot for the sync).

This deserves a Criterion Collection along with Pump Up the Volume, Heathers and Mallrats.

She served me beer just one or two years before this movie. She was a waitress as Sugar's in Austin, TX. Then went on to perform "Sugar High." There's a sugar themed trend here!
It's surreal to know that I used to tip Renée Zellweger. Crazy 90s!

I feel so lucky that I grew up in the 90s. We had the best movies.

The song COULD have won SONG OF THE YEAR AWARD if they had Renee on the album release.

I remember I rented Empire Records VHS totally out of blue and with zero expectations in late 1996. Here in Brazil, this movie never premiered on theathers and it came directly to the home video rental shops. I only saw Liv Tyler and a bunch of handsome youngs on the cover and took it. Best non planned decision I could have taken that day long ago. And here I still am, zillions of years later, talking about Empire Records. One of my favorite flicks ever, period.

Love this movie so much. Brings me back to the 90s this scene still makes me emotional. There’s so much emotion in her performance that you can feel it

I think it's great how rene Zellweger has a far superior singing voice to the actual lead singer 👨‍🎤 🎤

The number of years between the first moon landing and THIS movie... equals the number of years between July 2021 and THIS movie.

I grew up watching this when I was probably like 12-13, roughly when this came out, watched it all the time.
I actually think Rene Zellweger has a great voice for this, she is actually singing this right?
Anyone else grow up watching this?
