In audio there are many terms that are thrown around loosely, and "musical EQ" is one of my least favourites. What on earth does it even mean? And is it as effective as we're told? Let's find out...

I think of musical eq as gentle eq curves that don’t disrupt the harmonic content. (E.g., mastering EQ)

This makes complete sense. It is just a "cool term" to attract rookies but you look at it from every angle and it smells fishy.
