A first in my life. Born in Far East, I had not seen analog giants such as CS-80, Prophet-5, OB-Xa, Jupiter-8, Synthex or even PPG Wave while I was growing up. This changed in 1983 when the original DX-7 came out. It seemed everyone had and played a Yamaha DX-7 on stage or in their Music Videos! Remember the backplate that showed 'DX-7' to the audience or camera so proudly? Later Roland D-50(1987) and Korg M-1(1988) followed DX-7 and succeeded the throne of 1980s synthesizer king! Still amazing!

Instantly back in a music shop in 1988 where I was admireing this beauty. And the Bangles play on the radio here, Manic Monday, that also uses a DX7

I love my DX7IIFD, it has one of the best vintage synth actions in my collection. VERY solid and the after touch still works like a charm at close to 40 years later. It's a little bit mechanically noisy as you play the keys, but that doesn't come through the recording :)

One of my biggest regrets was selling my DX7IID. I have the Yamaha S90XS so I still have some of the sounds that made the DX the legend that it is, but I miss the feel of that keyboard.

me at the time living in the GDR was so much dreaming of this unit, almost abandoned any motivation to try and live guitar as best as i could, almost on the verge to trying and and begin to build a synth on my own, because i would not have been able to afford anything available at the time to regular people like me in the East; fortunately i could afford a guitar and stuck with it; nowadays i think i should get me DX7 40 yrs later
