My new year's resolution is to get a foundation license. As a kid I mucked around with CB radios and have had various scanners over the years too. I've always had a fascination with radio and I'm keen to dip my tow in the water.

Just got a copy of “you entry into amateur radio” from the WIA….. I too was one of those pesky cb’ers from the eighties, ham international Concorde 2, bremi 200w amp, 3 element beam……… time to do it legally now that I’m in my 60’s. I’ll give you a shout once I get on the air, I’m down in the channel👍👍👍

My Australian Ham Radio Handbook should be delivered this week. I'm in Bargara, just outside Bundaberg. I've contacted my club and future assessor. 😊

The biggest setback is foundation holders have a mere 10w, on 2/70 thats perfectly workable, but not HF, often I hear them trying to call in on DX nets and net controllers other DXrs cant hear them, despite F calls hearing dx's 5'9+ naturally with most US and Asian Dx's running a kilowatt and Aussies running 400, foundations get wiped out no chance, a couple have told me it frustrates them so they dont bother, , they also dont have time costs or brains (in one of their own words) to pass an upgrade, one I spoke to most recently on 2m even admitted to upping his HF power to 100w just to be heard and make a single contact.
The ACMA had their chance to fix that last year but opted not to, and as far as I know its now off the table.

I've just bought this book, through Amazon, I'm in no way new to Amateur Radio.
Oddly enough Jaycar here in NZ, only sells books pertaining to Arduino and things like that.
Based on Peter's videos, this should be a really good read, thanks Peter for writing it and Hayden for the shout-out on it!
